Ghosts, vampires and haunted houses can be scary enough. But to mark Halloween, the European Heat Pump Association EHPA points to three numbers that are far more frightening. The good news is that we already have a solution that can give the story a better ending.
€100 billion – or 10 million heat pumps
Since the war in Iran began, the EU has spent an additional €100 billion on importing energy. For the same amount, 10 million extra heat pumps could have been installed.
€29 billion a year in health costs
Air pollution from home heating costs around €29 billion a year in health costs in the EU and the UK. When a heat pump replaces a gas boiler, an oil boiler or a wood-burning stove, almost all of that pollution disappears.
A third of emissions come from buildings
33 % of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions come from buildings. A heat pump uses only a little electricity, and that electricity can be 100 % renewable.
No tricks
The heat pump is efficient and clean, and it is ready to be installed today. This is the green transition, and it is an ending worth waiting for.
