More and more Danish homeowners are choosing a heat pump. In the third quarter of 2026, 5,745 air-to-water and ground source heat pumps were sold in Denmark, compared with 4,276 in the same quarter last year. That is an increase of 34 %, according to new figures from the Danish Heat Pump Association, Varmepumpeindustrien (VPI).
A market on the rise
Taking the first three quarters of the year together, sales are up 26 % compared with 2025. Things are moving in the right direction, says VPI chairman Niels Peter Skov. There is still some way to go to the record year of 2022, so the potential is large.
The Danish Heat Pump Pool
Varmepumpepuljen (the Danish Heat Pump Pool) currently gives Danish homeowners a grant of DKK 27,000 when they replace their oil or gas boiler with a heat pump. The government’s proposed budget for 2027 would close the pool from next year. Support schemes exist in other countries too — check the scheme in your country.
The heat pump works where district heating does not reach
VPI wants to keep the pool and proposes a targeted grant for the homeowners who need it most. For many houses beyond the reach of district heating, the heat pump is the most concrete way away from oil and gas. It is the green transition, all the way home to your boiler room.
